The Groodle is a gentle, friendly dog with intelligence and a level disposition and because of this is an ideal dog to have as part of the family. They adore children and love to be involved in all family matters, whether indoors or outdoors. As they are a cross, the retriever part may encourage them to attempt to drag, pull, or carry anything they can fit into their mouths. They may also love water, and care should be taken to ensure their safety when any form of water is nearby. The Poodle part of them will make them loyal and intelligent so training should be a fun experience.

The Golden is known for its lustrous golden coat and the Poodle has a soft curly coat that needs to be groomed and trimmed. The puppies coat can be a mix of the two or be more dominant to one breed, however it is usually the poodle. Keep the hair near his eyes and tail area shorter as a maintenance between grooms. The puppy needs to be familiar with been bathed and brushed so making grooming easier when older. (Use a specialised Pet Shampoo not Human Shampoo)
Both breeds enjoy playing in the water and mud, this is easily cleaned off once the coat has dried.
The puppies can grow very quickly so keep exercise to age appropriate and allow the puppy time to sleep in between plays.
Adult Groodles require exercise of moderate length every day to stay fit, this includes walks and physical activity such as water play, balls, soft toys where possible.
Goldens are intelligent dogs however can sometimes also be worriers. Poodles are intelligent dogs, and their enthusiasm and energy should complement the quietness of the Golden to be a perfect blend and make training easier and enjoyable for everyone. Never treat them harshly and great care should be taken during training, ensuring sensitivity is always maintained. They love to give and receive affection and do best with positive, reward-based training.
Goldens and Poodles are generally healthy breeds so the puppy can be expected to live 12 to 16 years with proper care.
Keep them on a good diet and provide enough exercise to maintain good muscle tone, be vigilant about keeping him from becoming overweight, and monitoring his activities to prevent injury.
